Blogging On Free Hosts Not A Good Idea

This text discusses blogging and explains the reasons for not using free hosting services such as blogger.com or wordpress.com. It serves as a warning to those creating blogs on these free platforms, encouraging them to reconsider.

Setting up WordPress is cost-free and offers complete authority over your blog. There are additional options like movable type that can be considered. Explore various platforms to determine which one aligns with your blogging preferences. From personal experience, I have encountered a costly mistake and now only create blogs using my own domain names.

What is the reason for this decision?

Let's begin with blogger.com.

There is a new and unmanageable spam bot in place. By searching the help forums related to blogger, one can uncover alarming accounts. Authentic blogs are being removed, users are being locked out of their blogs pending review, and many are wrongly labeled as spammers due to the bot's actions or because someone pressed the flag button that appears on all blogger blogs.

Furthermore, the frequent issues with publishing being stuck at 0% and slow loading speeds create a frustrating experience for anyone trying to blog with blogger.com, as the legitimacy of your content is subject to others' interpretations.

While I understand the necessity to eliminate splogs and spammers, in this case, the solution has proven to be more harmful than the problem itself. Blogger.com was not always this way; I have used the platform for many years and found it reliable in the past.

Regarding wordpress.com, they are equally troublesome. If a blog links to an external site and seems like it encourages visitors to that site, they will suspend your account without any prior notice, restricting access to all your content.

It is unclear what their perspective on blogging is, but they appear to believe they have a significant role in determining what constitutes a "real blog."

A "real blog" should be managed by the individual writing it rather than being confined to someone else's expectations of its appearance and content.

If you choose to blog on free hosts, remain aware that your material and the blog itself are controlled by others who will decide its visibility to the public.

I suggest that all bloggers secure their own domain names and set up their own blogs. You’ve likely realized that utilizing a free host for a business website is detrimental, so why would you opt for a free host for your business's blog?

The same applies to personal blogs. Blogging gives individuals the opportunity to share their thoughts and creativity as they wish. This autonomy is the essence of blogging. Are you prepared to compromise your unique expression to align with what blogger.com or wordpress.com deems a "genuine" method of self-expression?

Frequently, the individual determining your outcome is someone who has never been in a position of power over others and believes they now possess divine authority to dictate the fate of work created by others. These individuals likely contribute no valuable content themselves and assume they understand what is most suitable for everyone else.

Obtain your personal domain name and set up a blogging platform that suits your requirements. This is the most valuable guidance you will receive regarding blogging. You truly have ownership of your blog only when it resides on your own domain name. Any other arrangement merely serves to supply content for another party.
